When to Consider a Conservatorship

November 4 Legacy Lawyers

When to Consider a ConservatorshipDeciding if it is time to seek a conservatorship for a loved one can be difficult. Every individual’s situation is different, so let us review your unique situation and help you decide the best course of action. For more information on conservatorships, please read our blog titled “What is a Conservatorship?”

There are a wide variety of circumstances that may warrant seeking a conservatorship. You may need to seek a conservatorship if your loved one:

  • Fails to properly take his/her medication
  • Refuses to go to the doctor, even though his/her health is at risk
  • Does not provide you access to his/her medical information
  • Will not give you authority to confer with the healthcare providers treating him/her
  • Is unable to make appropriate healthcare decisions
  • Fails to protect his/her financial well-being
  • Allows assets to be lost or wasted
  • Is susceptible to financial manipulation
  • Does not pay bills
  • Refuses to give you authority to sign checks on his or her behalf
  • Is in danger of neglect or abuse
  • Fails to attend to personal hygiene needs

There are lots of good reasons to act quickly if you think a conservatorship may be a good idea. Having conservator powers will help you protect the conservatee from physical harm and financial ruin. If you are uncertain about the timing for a conservatorship, feel free to contact us to reschedule your no-cost consultation. We are truly here to help. Simply call: (714) 963-7543.
